At My Hoa Pagoda, the room filled with excitement as the monk and children unboxed their first package of a year’s worth of school supplies. Their eyes lit up as they flipped through brand-new books to replace those lost in the flood, tested out fresh writing utensils, and used a whiteboard for the very first time instead of chalk. It was more than just supplies – it was a gift of hope, learning, and a brighter future.
A young girl wept softly over her ruined books, the pages still marked by the floodwaters that had taken so much from her. In that moment, the weight of loss was clear – and so was the importance of our mission. Every book we replace, every supply we deliver, is not just an item restored but a piece of a child’s hope and future returned.
We sat with the children as they patiently waited for the one small van that would take a few of them to school. Not all were fortunate enough to go – only a handful had the chance to learn in a classroom, while the others stayed behind to clean and help the monks. Watching their quiet determination reminded us why our mission matters: every child deserves the chance to learn, to dream, and to build a brighter future.
The children sat eagerly with their new materials, studying with focus and excitement as they held fresh books and supplies for the very first time. What may seem simple to many was, for them, a powerful step toward opportunity – a chance to learn, grow, and believe in a future made brighter through education.
Thanks to the dedication of Ms. Kenina Nguyen, the children have been learning English with enthusiasm and joy. After mastering the basics, they proudly sent us a thank-you video entirely in English – a moving reminder of how education can empower young voices to connect, express gratitude, and share their hope for the future.
Before their new materials arrived, the children proudly showed us the few toys they had – many broken or found – treasures they cherished nonetheless. With bright smiles, they taught us the names in Vietnamese as we shared the English words in return. In that simple exchange, we saw the joy of learning and the beauty of connection, even in the humblest of circumstances.
