2025 Scholarship Winner

The mission of TranScience is to promote science, healthcare, and innovation through education, research, training, and projects. Our scholarship is one pillar of our mission. To sustain and strengthen our mission, we ask and hope that recipients of our scholarship will consider donating back to the program within the second year of their careers. By accepting and receiving the scholarship, we hope the recipients will donate at least 20% of their scholarship amount each year back to our scholarship program until the full original amount is reached. TranScience will always use 100% of the donation toward any specific program. The uniqueness of TranScience is that all donations will never be used toward the operation of our non-profit organization. This year 2025 TranScience Scholarship will give recipients $5,000 to help with tuition.

This year, we proudly awarded scholarships to three remarkable individuals pursuing degrees across healthcare and business. Each of our recipients has faced unique challenges on their educational journey-balancing work, family responsibilities, and financial barriers-yet all three have demonstrated exceptional resilience and commitment to their goals.

Our scholars shared how this scholarship will impact their paths:

“This support allows me to be a more focused and dedicated student.”
“I can now reduce my work hours and prioritize school without the fear of overwhelming debt.”
“This scholarship motivates me to keep pushing toward my purpose.”

Beyond academics, our recipients embody leadership, compassion, and service. Collectively, they have managed clinics, supported peers, trained future healthcare workers, volunteered in their communities, and served as role models in their respective fields. Their stories show how far determination can take someone, and how meaningful it is to support people who are working hard to make a difference.

This year’s winners remind us that success is not defined by age or timeline-it’s never too late to pursue your purpose, rewrite your path, and chase opportunities once out of reach. A little support can go a long way, and we are honored to invest in the futures of these three inspiring individuals.

Veasna Dang

University of Houston- Business Management

Veasna is a student who leads with passion, curiosity, and a deep connection to both his community and his culture.

One of his favorite pastimes is pickleball-a sport he loves not only for its fun and competitiveness, but for its accessibility. As someone who once felt limited in athletics, Veasna found confidence on the pickleball court, where players of all backgrounds and body types come together. Its simplicity, yet difficulty to master, keeps him playing for hours and has taught him how joy, discipline, and inclusivity can exist in the same space.

Veasna ’s curiosity extends far beyond the court. On weekends, he worked at an optometry practice, conducting pre-screening tests and learning directly from an optometrist. This hands-on experience opened his eyes to the diagnostic process, the technology behind patient care, and the possibility of running his own practice one day. It was here that Veasna discovered his passion for optometry and confirmed his goal of pursuing the Optometry Program at the University of Houston. The early exposure he gained has prepared him with knowledge and confidence that will set him apart as he enters the field.

Throughout high school, one of Veasna ’s most meaningful commitments was his involvement in Viet Múa, a cultural dance club that performs annually at Shadow Creek High School’s Cultural Extravaganza. What began as a spontaneous decision freshman year grew into a defining part of his identity. Through partner dances, traditional umbrella performances, and high-energy boys’ hat dances, Veasna learned discipline, teamwork, and cultural pride. He formed lasting friendships and found inspiration in the upperclassmen who treated cultural expression with passion and respect. As he grew within the club, he stepped into that same leadership role—motivating younger members, refining performances, and helping create unforgettable moments on stage for hundreds to enjoy.

Veasna ’s story reflects a student who embraces opportunity, values community, and celebrates where he comes from. His commitment to learning, culture, and service makes him an outstanding scholarship recipient, ready to take his next steps with purpose and pride.

Samantha Paige Svetlik

Texas A&M- Business

Samantha is a student defined by her determination, compassion, and commitment to service.

Her journey has always been shaped by a desire to reach higher and take on challenges head-on. From training six days a week in elementary school to win a race she once lost, to enrolling in rigorous AP classes like BC Calculus and AP U.S. History, Samantha learned early that success comes from persistence, discipline, and a refusal to settle. That drive continues to fuel her academic and personal growth.

Just as powerful as her ambition is her heart for service. Through the National Honor Society, Samantha found deep fulfillment in giving back to her community. Her most meaningful experience came at the Hill Country Food Distribution Drive, where she packed and delivered food to families in need. Seeing the impact of her actions firsthand reinforced her belief in the importance of compassion, humility, and showing up for others.

Much of Samantha’s strength and purpose comes from the influence of her grandfather, a Marine Corps veteran whose courage and dedication to doing good shaped her values. Though he passed away three years ago, his stories and legacy continue to guide her. As she begins her journey at Texas A&M, Samantha hopes to honor him by embracing new challenges, using her education to help others, and carrying forward the same sense of bravery and service he always embodied.

For Samantha, this scholarship is more than financial support-it is a stepping stone to new opportunities. It allows her to pursue higher education with fewer barriers, push herself even further, and ultimately build a future dedicated to making the world better in his honor.

Paul Hoang

University of Houston- Nursing

Paul’s story is one of leadership, compassion, and personal growth.

During orientation at the University of Houston, Paul stepped up when his group became lost in a crowded and unfamiliar environment. He stayed calm, gathered his peers, and used teamwork and problem-solving to guide everyone back to their leader-without leaving anyone behind. That moment shaped his understanding that real leadership is about collaboration, care, and guiding others through uncertainty.

Paul’s compassion, understanding, and determination continue to guide him as he pursues a future in nursing. He hopes to use these traits to build meaningful relationships with patients, support them through difficult moments, and provide care grounded in empathy and respect.

His journey has also been marked by tremendous personal growth. Once an anxious and introverted student, Paul slowly found confidence by engaging with his school community-from joining Spirit Week for the first time to inviting quiet classmates into conversations and organizing AP study sessions. As a leader in his school’s Tabletop Club, he helped create spaces where students worked together, solved challenges, and celebrated shared successes.

One of Paul’s most meaningful moments came during Senior Sunset, when he noticed a student sitting alone and invited him to join his group. That small gesture reflected the core of who Paul is: someone who ensures others feel welcome, seen, and included.

Paul carries this spirit with him into every environment. His story reminds us that leadership grows from kindness, and community begins with the courage to reach out.
