The mission of TranScience is to promote science, healthcare, and innovation through education, research, training, and projects. Our scholarship is one pillar of that mission. To sustain and strengthen our work, we hope that scholarship recipients will consider donating back to the program within the second year of their careers. By accepting and receiving the scholarship, we ask that recipients donate at least 20% of their scholarship amount each year until the full original award is reached. TranScience will always use 100% of every donation toward designated programs-never for operating expenses.

For 2023, the TranScience Scholarship awarded two exceptional students $5,000 each to support their educational and career goals.

This year, we proudly recognized two remarkable individuals pursuing degrees in healthcare and business. Each recipient has faced their own obstacles-balancing rigorous coursework, work responsibilities, and financial limitations-yet both have shown tremendous resilience, ambition, and dedication to their futures.

Beyond academics, our recipients embody leadership, compassion, and service. Abeline Christian University- Healthcare Administration and Nursing

Perla’s journey is one of resilience, compassion, and unwavering commitment to her future in healthcare.
After graduating high school 11 years ago, she dreamed of attending her chosen university but was unable to afford it. Today, she is taking a courageous step toward fulfilling that long-held goal by returning to school to pursue her bachelor’s degree in healthcare. This scholarship allows Perla to focus fully on her education-reducing the need for full-time work, relieving financial stress, and allowing her to graduate with minimal debt. For her, this opportunity is more than financial support; it is the chance to finally complete the chapter she began over a decade ago.

Compassion is at the heart of who Perla is, and it is the trait she believes will shape her success as a healthcare professional. In her previous role as a clinic office manager, Perla supported patients through difficult moments and offered empathy to colleagues who needed someone to listen. Her ability to care deeply, remain patient, and connect with others is what makes her not only a strong student, but a future healthcare provider who will make a meaningful difference in the lives of those she serves.

Perla’s leadership is equally remarkable. Throughout her time at the clinic, she helped improve efficiency, quality, and patient satisfaction; stood up for her staff during conflicts; and took accountability when mistakes occurred-modeling honesty and integrity. She trained over 15 medical students, created the clinic’s training binder, and helped hire and shape the next generation of healthcare workers. Her leadership style is rooted in respect, accountability, and a genuine desire to help others grow.

Perla’s story reflects strength, growth, and purpose. Her dedication to her education, her compassion for those around her, and her leadership in the workplace make her an exceptional scholarship recipient-someone who will continue to uplift others as she advances in her career and fulfills the dream she first envisioned more than a decade ago.

Texas State University- Nursing

Kelli is a leader, caregiver, and community advocate whose experiences have shaped a clear calling to serve others through healthcare.
Her leadership journey began early in high school, where she rose through the ranks of her band program to become President her senior year. Along the way, she learned how to guide others through difficult moments, plan major events, and create a more inclusive environment. One of her proudest accomplishments was developing a modernized tracking system for the band’s annual fundraising drive-replacing a process that had gone unchanged for more than six years. Her innovation helped increase productivity and income, leaving behind a lasting system the band can use for years to come.

For more than a decade, Kelli has attended Camp Beyond Me, an experience that opened her eyes to poverty and growing community needs within her own city. The camp taught her the reality of how medical debt and lack of access to care can lead to homelessness, shaping her desire to become a nurse who advocates for accessible, affordable healthcare. Inspired by what she learned, Kelli hopes to use her future role in healthcare to improve well-being in underserved neighborhoods and empower families facing hardship.

Kelli’s passion for nursing deepened during her senior year through her school’s competitive Practicum in STEM program. She shadowed nurses at Ascension Seton Hospital twice a week, witnessing firsthand the strength, patience, and compassion required to care for patients during their most vulnerable moments. Later, at Little Tesoros Therapy Services, she observed physical, occupational, and speech therapists as they crafted individualized treatment plans for children with disabilities. These experiences expanded her understanding of the diverse challenges people face and reaffirmed her dedication to supporting others with empathy and skill.

Every lesson Kelli has learned-from leading her peers, to serving her community, to shadowing healthcare professionals-guides her toward a future in nursing. Her compassion, resilience, and commitment to helping others make her an exceptional scholarship recipient and a future healthcare provider who will bring both heart and expertise to every patient she serves.
